Mail automation: from incoming mail to templated delivery
Services that process incoming mail and send consistent, templated messages, built in stages since 2024, including a shared template package and a sending function on AWS Lambda.
- TypeScript
- Node.js
- AWS Lambda
- Step 1: A mailbox or a platform event
- Step 2: Processing
- Step 3: Shared template
- Step 4: Delivery by email or Teams
Context
Mail automation is one of the products the platform offers. Behind it are two jobs: processing mail that comes in, and sending messages that look consistent wherever in the platform they start.
My role
I built it myself, in stages, from 2024 on.
What I built and decided
- A service that processes incoming mail from a mailbox.
- A shared email-template package, so services send messages that look the same instead of each building its own HTML.
- A later mail service and a serverless function on AWS Lambda that sends mail.
- Delivery from the platform backend as HTML email and to Microsoft Teams.
Outcome
The pieces exist and are merged into their codebases. That is the boundary of the claim: there are no figures yet for volume, delivery rates, or time saved, so this page claims none.
What I'd do next
Measure delivery failures and processing time, and publish them once there is a baseline to compare against.
