Connecting a door-access system to an AI assistant

An integration that lets the assistant work with a physical door-access system: QR codes are scanned and checked against an authorised list over a secure channel.

Context

An AI assistant that only lives on a screen stops at the door. This integration connects it to a physical door-access system.

My role

I built the integration.

What I built and decided

  • A Raspberry Pi that links the door-access system to the assistant over a secure channel.
  • QR-code scanning at the door.
  • A check of each scan against an authorised list.

Outcome

The assistant now takes part in physical access: a scanned QR code is checked against the authorised list through the integration.

What I'd do next

Document the privacy side as carefully as the technical side: what is stored, for how long, and who can see it.
